About
Jarrett Davidson’s paintings are constructed from characters and representational themes that have recurred throughout art history. Within painted surfaces, stories flourish through the combination of depicted historical icons, settings, and symbols. Finding intersections between the cliche and sacred, his paintings serve as a visual feast of dramatic narratives, projected, and internalized by the subjects he conveys.
As an Oregonian, Jarrett has accumulated a vocabulary of imagery that reflect his encounters in the Northwest of the United States as well as impressions made during his travels in Mexico and Italy. To honor the origins of his interest in art, Jarrett has taken teaching as a professional avenue for encouraging young people’s creative interests. Graphic novels, cinema, religious art, and historical figures continuously inform Davidson’s work as he continues to forge images of cultural resonance that speak to our connections to stories of the past and present.
